Fashion Director for Marie Claire, Nina Garcia, has been attending NY Fashion shows all week and tweeting the gowns she is handpicking for stars to wear to the Oscars. Today she tweeted two words, “Oscar gown” and posted a pic of a model walking down the runway in a gorgeous red beaded L’Wren Scott lace gown. The designer, L’Wren Scott was the long-term girlfriend of Mick Jagger and she worked as a costume designer on films including Ocean’s Thirteen and Eyes Wide Shut. She knows a thing or two about Academy Awards. Will someone we know end up wearing it on February 26th? Who would it look hot on?

It is a L’Wren Scott gown, which is a newish couture designer, but she is starting to become well established on the runway and red carpet. She made a name for herself by rejecting the traditional fashion cycle of “seasons”, opting instead to name her collections. In 2006 she launched her first collection titled, ‘Little Black Dress’, which was exactly that – wearable, versatile pieces, entirely in black. Most recently, the design house introduced the “Lula” bag collection — a line of classic frame bags in honor of her mom that are available in various sizes and exotic skins, debuting exclusively at Barneys stores.
This red heavily beaded gown is perfect Academy Award material. It creates a sexy silhouette, is both intricate and unique, oozes a sense of real luxury with the beautiful fabric and perfect detail and has been eyed by Nina Garcia which means that someone will probably end up wearing it on Oscar night. Some people obviously already have their Oscar gowns picked out but many stars will wait until after Fashion Week when their stylist will find that dress and literally pounce on the designer to let their client wear it down the biggest red carpet of the year. The fact that Nina has ‘eyed’ this one makes me think that we might just see someone in it at the Oscars… keep you eyes out… I think it would look beautiful on Viola Davis or Bérénice Bejo star of The Artist. (She is going to need a good gown if she’s going up on stage a lot…)
